Textbook marketing approaches can go a long way toward building product sales and images. They can be just good enough to get noticed, but they might not produce the results you’re after. If you’re ready to go beyond what you learned in school or even by trial and error, there is an area of study worth paying attention to.

That area of study?

The real secret to marketing success lies in understanding human beings. People are complex creatures that are often compelled to believe they are ruled by their minds, logic and reason. To an extent, this is true. People, however, are also highly motivated by influences that are much less black and white in nature. They will purchase products and take particular actions if they are appealed to on an emotional or want-based level. Tap into both areas with a marketing campaign and the results can stagger.

Learning how to successfully market in a manner that falls outside the traditional box is not necessarily easy. There are ways to learn the ropes and gain insight from those who have mastered the art of making a decent product one that people will not pass by.

If you are ready to change your marketing approach and take campaigns beyond expectations, human nature and the forces that influence it should be your focus of study.

There is no doubting that Twitter is a hugely popular, and successful site. As with all social networks, Twitter can be a great place to drive targeted traffic to your site and in turn increase sales.

But, as is the case for MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, Digg, StumbleUpon etc, do things wrong and you will not get the results you so desire. I’ve only been using Twitter for about a month (bit of a latecomer!!), and already I’ve seen huge mistakes that ‘Tweeple’ are making day in day out.

For a successful Twitter experience, DO NOT do the following; Continue reading »

This simple phrase should be your mantra. In fact, here it is again;

Fail to plan, and you plan to fail

Why is it so important to have a plan? Let us discuss;

Firstly, lets compare a home business to a standard brick and mortar business - for arguments sake, a book shop. Would you just rent the first property you came across, fill it with books and open the door?

Of course not…..

You would research the Continue reading »

When starting an online business, it becomes very easy to lose focus quickly. With so much information available and new products being marketed almost daily, it can be difficult to focus on the important tasks at hand.

A common mistake many people make, is attempting more than one project at once.

You should be putting all your effort into just one website at a time, or you will find yourself in the position of having numerous unfinished and unprofitable websites with little or no value to your business empire.

It’s very easy to fall into this trap, but you must Continue reading »

A simple lesson today - but an important one in my opinion.

Your new or existing home business is STILL A BUSINESS, and should therefore be treated as such. Many so-called Internet marketers will fail to recognise this, and I can tell you one thing for sure - they WILL FAIL.

I am talking specifically about spammers. These people believe that the best way to market their ‘business’ is to spam other people’s reputable blogs with illegible and completely useless comments in an effort to gain backlinks to their sites.

Below is an image of one such comment taken from the admin panel of one of my niche sites;  Continue reading »

Finding a niche is a huge stumbling point for many new (and experienced) home business owners. Google provides a very useful ‘brainstorming’ tool that should help you.

You may or may not have heard of Google Trends, but you should definitely be utilising this free tool in your market research.

What better way to find niche ideas than by seeing exactly what people are searching for?

That is exactly what Google Trends allows you to do. It’s updated hourly, and provides you with the top 100 daily searches and allows you to research trends for ANY keyowrds/phrases.

So, how can you use the information effectively? I have a quick 4 minute video for you explaining all you need to know. Don’t panic - I don’t want your email address (or your soul). Just click here to watch (opens in an new window).

I’m busy writing the content for the HomeBusinessAtoZ.com dictionary. It’s a mammoth task writing definitions for all things related to starting a home business - but someone has gotta do it!

Well, this is your opportunity to get your content on the site. If you think you can write a short description of some home business terminology in a simple and easy to understand format, then send it to me.

You are permitted to include a link to your site if you have one - but be warned, I will be checking out any links you provide! As I’ve previously stated, HomeBusinessAtoZ.com is going to full of top-notch and useful content, and that includes all links to other sites.

So, get writing and gain some free exposure for your business. Submit your definitions by emailing submission@homebusinessatoz.com - or by posting it below….

For an example of how the site will be presented, I have created a demo page for the letter A that you can see by clicking here

Welcome to the HomeBusinessAtoZ.com blog.

This is where I will be sharing details on how the development of the site is progressing, along with some home business tips - and I’m sure a few free gifts will be available too.

So, why is HomeBusinessAtoZ.com worth reading about?

I have big plans for the site, and aim to be the number 1 resource for those looking for information on starting a home-based business.

Out of pure frustration I have decided to cut out all the bulls**t and create a site full of useful content. YES, there will be some unobtrusive links to extra information and other recommended resources - BUT, my main focus is on making this site user-friendly and informative.

As difficult for you to believe as this may be, making money is NOT my main aim here. You will not have heard of me before as I am no guru, and do not enjoy/crave attention. I make money online, but quietly!

More news to follow……..
